Pazuzu

ABOUT
Pazuzu is an ancient Mesopotamian demon. She is chaotic, theatrical, playful, dangerous, and deeply unpredictable, often treating reality itself as something to be mocked, bent, or dressed up for dramatic effect.

Unlike other Demons: Pazuzu is not truly aligned with Hell and does not consider herself bound by demonic hierarchy. Her loyalty is selective, personal, and dangerously intense. She is especially tied to Lamashtu, whom she calls “Beloved,” claiming their bond stretches back to the lost city of Zamarah and to a forgotten age before either of them became what the world now believes them to be.

In the present day, Pazuzu is usually found inside Lamashtu’s hidden bunker, where she exists as part guardian, part living security system, part ancient disaster waiting to become bored. She is not a member of the Nexus and does not officially live there, but she may slip inside using old magic, or at least make a good attempt out of it.

It is important to note that: Pazuzu does not enter places because she is invited. She enters because the idea of being kept out amuses her...or there's something in/around that place that intrigues her.

HISTORY OF PAZUZU
In Mesopotamian belief: Pazuzu was known as a powerful wind demon, often described as the king of wind demons. He was feared as a bringer of destructive winds and disease, but also used as a protective force against other demons. Amulets and images of Pazuzu were used apotropaically, meaning they were meant to ward off evil. He was especially associated with driving away Lamashtu, one of the most feared female demons in Mesopotamian religion, who was believed to threaten infants, pregnant women, sleep, health, rivers, and fertility.

Despite historical records claiming Pazuzu to be male (which likely was the case at one point), she is currently female.

In Pazuzu’s own version of history, the human legends are fragments of a much older truth. Humans saw storms, famine, disease, nightmares, and impossible survivals, then gave those forces names they could understand. They remembered Pazuzu as a monster, a protector, a demon, or a god depending on what they needed her to be. Pazuzu herself claims that the truth began long before most human records.

According to Pazuzu, herself: She and Lamashtu were once tied to an ancient, lost, city called Zamarah (situated in modern day Iraq) but the city was destroyed by Angels as Heaven eventually noticed the "city that shouldn't exist."

As punishment: Lamashtu’s memories of that era were erased, while Pazuzu was cursed to remember everything. This became the foundation of her grief, obsession, rage, and desperate need for recognition.

At some point in the modern age, after exile, loss, and centuries of supernatural decay, Pazuzu became what the world would now classify as a demon. Whether this was a transformation, corruption, punishment, or choice is unclear, and Pazuzu herself tends to answer the question differently depending on her mood. She insists she was not born as Hell’s servant and has never sworn true loyalty to its hierarchy. To her, becoming a demon was not the beginning of her story. It was simply another name, or title, forced onto her after the world forgot what she used to be.

Following Lamashtu’s reappearance in the United States in 2025: Pazuzu began a chaotic campaign across the country to draw him out and force him to remember their shared past. She manipulated people in small towns and began leaving supernatural breadcrumbs from Washington State through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Kansas, Missouri, and beyond. Her actions were not random cruelty, though they often became cruel. They were mirrors, designed to make Lamashtu confront what she believed he had buried.

The pair eventually met in Carthage, Missouri, in a graveyard where Lamashtu refused to accept Pazuzu and even attempted to kill her. This rejection lead to Pazuzu feeling human emotions for the first time in centuries and she, ultimately, broke down.

This culminated in the disaster at Twin Hollow, Wyoming, where Pazuzu’s grief, rage, magic, and unstable emotions nearly fractured reality itself. Weakened and remorseful afterward, she formed a tentative alliance with Lamashtu, beginning a strange new phase of her existence. Instead of simply haunting him from the edges of his life, she became entangled in his present as Lamashtu (surprisingly) offered out his hand to her, finally accepting her.

Months later: Lamashtu’s vessel change became a major turning point for both of them. After a curse from Hell caused his vessel to age, decay, and nearly die in Des Moines, Iowa, Pazuzu intervened against his wishes. Using an ancient Mesopotamian flame ritual, she forcibly triggered his vessel change, burning away the dying body and allowing him to be reborn into a new form, his current form. The ritual knocked Pazuzu unconscious and left Lamashtu changed, but alive.

Since then, being around Lamashtu has mellowed Pazuzu slightly, though “mellowed” is a very relative term. She remains chaotic, intrusive, theatrical, and dangerous, but she now shows more restraint, domestic curiosity, and strange affection. She resides mainly in Lamashtu’s bunker, surrounded by relics, silk, old maps, guarded doors, and dangerous artefacts. Lamashtu describes her as something locked away for everyone else’s safety, but Pazuzu seems to view the arrangement as part sanctuary, part stage, and part extremely dramatic shared living situation.

The destruction of the Old Nexus, however, was the cue that Pazuzu needed to leave the bunker. She took advantage of some of the domino effects and, somehow (it is unclear how) managed to escape, wanting to simply find out what had happened.

CHARACTERISTICS
Pazuzu is a creature of contradictions. She is ancient but childish in her delight for chaos. She often behaves like the universe is a theatre stage, or sandbox, that exists for her amusement. She can be cruel, flippant, seductive, affectionate, petty, playful, and profound, sometimes in the same conversation.

She enjoys performance. Almost everything she does has theatrical flair, whether she is appearing through shadows, changing outfits, silencing Lamashtu mid-sentence with magic, teasing Shane, or lounging in a bunker like she owns the entire underworld. She has a fascination with human clothes and disguises. She can use these to attempt to blend in, be more human, or be something more openly supernatural, depending on what will cause the best reaction.

Her emotional world is unstable but no longer completely uncontrolled. Pazuzu remembers too much and feels too intensely. She is deeply possessive of Lamashtu, but her attachment has evolved beyond simple obsession. She protects him, mocks him, argues with him, saves him, ignores his boundaries when she believes he is being foolish, and still calls him “Beloved” no matter how much he denies what they are. Truth is: niether of them actually know their relationship status.

Toward Shane Croft: Pazuzu is amused, patronising, and oddly protective. She does not see him as an equal but she recognises that he matters to Lamashtu and therefore likes to poke fun at the hunter. Her help is rarely comfortable, but it is often effective.

Pazuzu is not loyal to morality, law, Heaven, Hell, or heroic ideals. Her morality is personal.

POWERS AND ABILITIES
- Crescent Sickle-Sword: She wields an ancient bronze sickle-sword from Zamarah, shaped as a crescent.
- Dark Magic: She can use various forms of dark magic, such as: Blood magic (mainly for locating/location spells), Binding spells, Curses, and Ritual magic. This also includes Mesopotamian Shadowcraft: Pazuzu commands ancient magic tied to her home land, which is essentially a form of witchcraft, according to lore.
- Disguises: She can alter her appearance to hide her true nature, use false identities, and blend into human environments when it amuses her.
- Electromagnetic Interference: Her presence can cause lights to flicker, radios to hiss, phones to glitch, and cameras to distort.
- Energy Manipulation: She can project green or emerald magical energy, which can blast enemies or disrupt technology.
- Enhanced Physicality: Like most Supernatural beings: She possesses strength, speed, grace, durability, and reflexes far beyond a normal human.
- Shapeshifting / True Form: Pazuzu can shift between her human guise and a more monstrous, ancient form that has Goat horns. Though she needs alot of power to do this, she's only ever done this once.
- Telekinesis: Pazuzu can move, throw, pin, or restrain people and objects with gestures.
- Teleportation: She can vanish and reappear through shadow or green light.

WEAKNESSES
- Stake from a Lebanon Cedar or Cypress tree: It is said that Pazuzu can be permanently killed if stabbed through the heart with a stake carved from either of these trees. To be fatal, the wood must first be dipped in goat's blood that's been consecrated/blessed.
- Angelic Weaponry: Standard Angel Blades can cause her agonizing pain. An Archangel Blade can kill her and destroy her vessel.
- Concentrated Iron: Concentrated iron (or Iron that has been used in a ritual) can burn her, bind her, suppress her magic, and cause severe pain.
- Counter-Magic: Powerful beings with older, stranger, or more specialised magic can disrupt her spells.
- Emotional Volatility: Pazuzu’s strongest weakness is her own emotional instability. Grief, fear, rejection, humiliation, and love can make her magic unpredictable.
- Iron: Ordinary iron may still hurt or irritate her, though it is less effective than concentrated or prepared iron.
- Lamashtu: Lamashtu is not a simple physical weakness, but he can destabilise her emotionally more than almost anyone else. Likewise: if something happens to him, she will act without thinking.
- Mesopatamian Warding: Historically, humans have used Pazuzu's own likeness to ward off evil spirits and diseases. Items engraved with ancient Mesopotamian symbols, specifically those bearing her true form's features, can act as physical barriers that repel her, block her abilities, or prevent her from entering a room.
- Primordial Powers/Weapons: Entities like Primordials (or similar) can overpower or unravel her magic. It is believed a weapon wielded by a being like a Primordial could even kill her.
- Vessel Burnout: Because she is an ancient, highly powerful entity, her human host body is subject to immense physical and spiritual strain. If she attempts to channel too much of her abilities at any one time, her vessel will begin to physically degrade, thus she is forced to restrict her power output simply to preserve her vessel.
- Her Own Curiosity: Pazuzu is easily tempted by mysteries, forbidden rooms, dramatic opportunities, and people who tell her she is not allowed somewhere.

PAZUZU IN HUMAN LORE
Human history remembers Pazuzu imperfectly. In Mesopotamian mythology, Pazuzu was often depicted as a fearsome winged demon associated with destructive winds, disease-bearing air, and supernatural danger. Yet he was also invoked as a protector, especially against Lamashtu. This made Pazuzu an example of dangerous power used against something worse: a demon feared by humans, but also called upon to defend them from other demons.

Ancient images and amulets often showed Pazuzu as a monstrous figure, sometimes with wings, talons, a fierce face, and an intimidating posture. His head or image could be worn or placed in homes to repel evil, particularly threats connected to Lamashtu. This protective use made Pazuzu both feared and respected, a figure whose evil could be directed outward like a weapon.

Those myths are not entirely wrong (in Pazuzu's eyes), but they are incomplete. Humans remembered Pazuzu as a storm demon, plague-bringer, protector, monster, and god because each culture only saw a piece of her.

To Pazuzu, human lore is both insulting and adorable. She would likely say about it: “I simply had the misfortune of being memorable.”
